The SHATEC INdustry Excellence (SHINE) Awards celebrates the achievements of individuals who has made significant contributions towards the school and industry with impactful outcomes, particularly in the areas of learning and talent development.
The SHINE Awards comprises of three categories of recognition:
Both the Outstanding Alumni Award and Industry Mentor Award were open for nominations from 29 October to 21 November 2018. Within the period, an outpouring of responses were received from the industry and community. All nominations were evaluated by a panel of judges formed by the SHATEC Board, the SHATEC Management, the SHATEC Alumni Committee and other independent representatives of the industry.
The Lifetime Achievement Award being an honourific title conferred to distinguished individuals who have dedicated their lives to being visionary leaders and role models in the hospitality industry, was not open to nominations. The recipient of this award was nominated by the SHATEC Management, as an individual who has made an enduring and profound difference to the hospitality industry, community and the careers and/or lives of others.

Today, Chef Edmund continues to support the school by co-organising the monthly Gourmet Nights, sitting onboard the Culinary & Pastry Panel of the Industry Mentorship Programme @SHATEC and providing valuable advice on industry partnerships with strategic stakeholders.
Mr. Arthur Kiong

His leadership philosophy is to change mindsets of his teams from being just revenue and profit-oriented to one that focuses on customer needs, product and service quality, as well as brand building.
Today, he is a key activist in helping the industry innovate in terms of streamlining processes and services, and better managing manpower deployment and development. He sits on the expert panel of the Hotel Innovation Committee led by the Singapore Hotels Association and is Co-Chair of the Hotel Industry Expert Panel – a task force set up by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). In these roles, MrKiong is actively involved in the review of the hospitality industry’s strategies and innovations to raise hotel productivity, as well as to ensure the future-readiness of the hospitality industry. Some of the key initiatives which he worked on include micro innovations such as shared services, centralisation, process improvements, automation, macro innovation such as creating a seamless destination experience for the visitors, attracting local talents to the industry, and building a Singaporean core to support future growth.
Mr. Kiong is an active advocate of his learning from SHATEC, often citing how he has achieved his success purely on what he has learnt from SHATEC and that his SHATEC Diploma is his only professional education. He is an influencer of the industry, and supports all initiatives by SHATEC.
Chef Pang Kok Keong

Throughout his illustrious career, Chef Pang had refined his skills in all aspects of pastry such as chocolate work, sugar work, cake and bread making. Since establishing the exciting sweet/pastry-centric F&B group – Sugar Daddy Group in 2011, Chef Pang has elevated his career by introducing the popular dining concepts Antoinette, a beautiful Parisian style pâtisserie, salon de thé (tea room) and restaurant and Pique Nique, an American-style bakery bistro.
He has received the coveted title of Pastry Chef of the year no less than three times at the World Gourmet Summit in 2007, 2009 and 2010, the youngest chef to have won this award three times. In 2011, he was inducted to the World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence – Hall of Fame for Pastry Chef of the Year.
Mr. Nicholas Lim

He started his career with the Travel Corporation (TravCorp) and progressed on with stints at its subsidiaries like Insight Vacations before running sister company Contiki in 2005 and winning awards while at it. Impressed by his abilities, the organization tasked him to start up Trafalgar’s Singapore office in 2011.Under Nicholas, the Asian office won the Sales Office of the Year award in 2012. He was promoted from Regional Director to President of Trafalgar (Asia) & The Travel Corporation (Asia) and again to Managing Director of The Travel Corporation Asia in 2018.
Despite his hectic schedule, Mr. Lim is a dedicated mentor on the tourism panel of the Industry Mentorship programme @SHATEC,contributing his valuable experience and expertise towards the development of future leaders for the tourism industry.
Singapore Chef Association
Chef Edmund is the current President of the Singapore Chef Association and has held senior leadership roles with organisations such as Resorts World Sentosa, Rasel Catering Singapore and Purple Sage Group, SF Group (COLLIN’S) etc. He is a recognized expert in the creation and execution of business growths, implementing performance strategies, concept development of restaurants, menu and recipes development, training and implementation of cost control measures.
He contributes his extensive expertise in the industry, especially in the fields of talent development, providing career opportunities and mentorship to fresh entrants. He returned to his alma mater in 2015 and helmed the role of Director for Culinary Studies where he played a key role in the initial start-up of the school’s training restaurant, The Sapling.
Over the last 30 years of his career, Mr. Kiong has worked at prominent International hospitality brands across 4 continents including The Ritz-Carlton (Singapore and New York), Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (Hong Kong), Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Westin Hotels & Resort.
Chef Pang is both well-known and highly respected in the pastry and chocolate industry for his extensive knowledge in patisserie arts which has allowed him to create some truly exquisite dessert masterpieces that combine artistry with ingenuity.
Mr. Lim is an award winning brand custodian for top global travel companies with a track record of spear-heading and growing businesses in Asia. He is an experienced individual highly recognized for starting and growing a brand from scratch. Driven, self-directed and a believer in the power of teams, he enjoys new challenges and going against the status-quo.

Mr. Albert Teo is one of the most notable leaders of the Singapore’s hospitality scene and his contribution to Singapore’s tourism industry has been nothing short of extraordinary. A forerunner of his time, Mr. Teo has at various points in his career, assumed numerous roles including Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Amara Holdings Limited, President of the Singapore Hotel Association, Council Member of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore, Chairman of the SHATEC Board.
He played a pivotal role in Amara Holdings Ltd.’s diversification strategy and broadened its earnings base through an expansion of its Asian presence and the establishment of specialty food services in Singapore. Under his astute leadership, the Amara brand is today a home grown success and a prominent competitor alongside international hospitality players in its space.
Mr. Teo is a human dynamo who is passionately involved in championing the developments and transformation of the Singapore hotel industry and its numerous sectors. Beyond personal business interests, Mr. Teo has been President of the Singapore Hotel Association for 4 years. In this capacity, Mr. Teo has managed critical issues facing the sector, including manpower availability, the balance of demand and supply, as well as safety and security.
In addition to his work within the industry, Mr. Teo devotes his attention extensively to the training and development of young hospitality talents. As the Chairman of the SHATEC Board from 2006 to 2014, Mr. Teo was a strong advocate of progressive education and has continued to be an avid patron of the school. He is well noted for taking a keen interest in providing developmental opportunities to fresh SHATEC graduates and helping them gain a headstart in their careers.
With his continuing leadership and dedication, Mr. Albert Teo is truly an inspiration for people in the hospitality industry and Singapore. For his far ranging and significant contributions, SHATEC is honoured to present to Mr. Albert Teo, the SHINE Award for Lifetime Achievement.
